The Laguna Playhouse’s Internship Program is looking for highly motivated individuals interested in gaining access to and information about the day-to-day workings of an award-winning, professional, theatre company. Through daily assignments and duties with a given department, interns will receive first-hand knowledge of how a theatre works and will have the opportunity to work with Southern California’s finest professionals in a positive and energized environment.
Interns must be 18 years of age or older. The Laguna Playhouse offers unpaid internships year round to qualified students who possess a strong work ethic and a love for theatre and the arts. These positions last 3-6 months and are 15/20 hours/week with flexible scheduling. There may be more than one position available in each department.

C U R R E N T I N T E R N S H I P S A V A I L A B L E :
Communications & Marketing
This intern will assist the Director of Communications and/or Associate Director of Marketing and must be available during the days to take part in meetings, help with media relations, and aid in the planning and placement of advertisement. This intern may also assist in the assembly of programs and newsletters, and the distribution of collateral materials.
For advanced internships in fund-raising and marketing we offer an Income Manager Program:
Specially selected interns will be involved in:
Fund-raising: work on prospect research, corporate sponsorship proposals, direct response annual fund appeals, individual giving.
Marketing: work on market research, subscription pricing, budgeting, target marketing, advertising, direct response, group sales, sales promotions, etc.
Other areas: community relations & outreach, press releases, research, etc.
Production
This intern will assist in the behind the scenes work that prepare each production for performance. Ideally, the internship will begin during preproduction where the intern will learn and be involved with the casting process, assisting the Company Manager. This intern will also gain experience by involvement with the Costume Department, assisting the Prop Master, and serving a personal assistant to the Director and Stage Manager
Business Office
Candidates with a strong inclination towards Arts Management and accounting are encouraged to consider this internship. This intern will serve to support the Business Manager in tracking expenditures, and assembling support materials for Human Resources. This position interfaces with all members of the organization.
Box Office Management
This intern will assist the Associate Director of Customer Service and must be available some evenings and weekend hours. The intern will assist with customer service, ticket sales, house management, opening nights, special events, and database maintenance. Experience in customer service, house management and basic computer skills preferred. Interns will be trained on Tessitura, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
Development
This intern will assist the Director of Individual Giving and Director of Annual Fund in grants research, general fundraising. Qualified interns will learn to process donor contributions and gift acknowledgements through the CRM software, Tessitura. Candidates should possess good writing and computer skills and be self-starters. Please include a statement of professional/educational goals with your application and resume.
Special Events and Group Sales
This intern will offer support to the Special Events Manager and Group Sales Manager. Qualified candidates will work on tradeshows, special events, and receptions and play a part in the planning and creation of memorable donor cultivation and subscriber reward functions. Candidates should not have any physical restrictions; able to lift 40 lbs, be able to think “outside the box” and have strong communication and organizational skills. This candidate will also learn to utilize CRM software, Tessitura to enter important data about each event for the tracking of productivity.
Youth Theatre, Education and Outreach
Interns interested in Youth Theater, TheatreReach or Theatre For a New Generation now have an internship that addresses those education needs. This internship with the Director of Youth Theatre, Education and Outreach consists of auditing classes, assisting with registration, clerical organization and assisting on a Youth production. Depending on the specific discipline of the intern, this could include dramaturgy, production office support, assisting the director or designers, and assisting the stage manager in all duties.
